How do I get my Student ID and PIN?
IDs and PINs are issued by the University of Arizona Graduate College or the University of Arizona Undergraduate College upon admission into that college. If you have been admitted to one of these colleges and have not received your ID and PIN, contact the college. Instructions are on the Office of Curriculum and Registration web page. These are permanently assigned numbers. They do not change from semester to semester. Please store them in a safe place – you'll need them to access various student services.

Distance students may access the following areas of Student Link:
IMPORTANT! Distance students should NOT access the following areas of Student Link:
I’m an international graduate student. I don’t live in the United States and don’t plan to come there. I want to take your courses. How do I go about applying for admission to the University of Arizona?
Before you can be admitted into a UA Distance Learning program, you must be eligible for admission as a degree-seeking or non-degree student graduate student at the University of Arizona. You can find these eligibility requirements spelled out on the Graduate College Admissions Requirements web page. Please make sure you read the Additional Admission Information And Requirements For International Students, including the Proficiency in English section. Since you are not planning to come to the United States, the health insurance and financial guarantee sections will not apply.
I’m an international student. Do I need to take the English proficiency exam (TOEFL)?
I don’t live in the United States. How can I access your courses?
I’d like to teach distance courses for the University of Arizona. I’m not a member of the UA faculty. What opportunities do you have for me?
The Outreach College’s UA Distance Learning unit carries only the logistical and administrative functions for distance courses at the University of Arizona. The faculty in the individual departments create the distance courses and request our services to assist them in putting them on line and getting students registered for them. Currently, only faculty employed by the University of Arizona teach our credit distance courses, and I am unaware that any departments have hired from outside the university. However, if you would like to contact a particular department, you can find departmental contact information on the University of Arizona web site.
I’m not sure what courses I should be taking. Who should I contact for advising?
Contact the University Advisors: univcoll@u.arizona.edu
Can I get my bachelor’s degree at a distance from the University of Arizona?
Although the University of Arizona does offer undergraduate distance courses, you currently have to come to campus to complete all bachelor's degrees. The University of Arizona offers full degree programs at a distance only at the master's level.
Do you offer an online MBA program?
There's no online business program in Business Administration at the University of Arizona. There are evening and weekend MBA programs for working professionals. If you have any interest in either of these programs, please refer to the College of Business and Public Administration web site.
What is Proposition 300, how does it affect me, and how do I satisfy my residency requirements?
A referendum approved by Arizona voters in November 2006. Proposition 300 provides that university students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, or who do not have lawful immigration status, are not eligible for in-state tuition status or financial aid that is funded or subsidized by state monies. If you (a) do not receive in-state tuition status, and (b) do not receive financial aid funded by state monies (Arizona), then you are NOT affected by Proposition 300. If you (a) receive in-state tuition status, or (b) receive financial aid that is supported by state monies (Arizona), then you are affected by Proposition 300.
For more information on what you need to do to comply with Proposition 300 read our Explanation of Prop 300 information and also What is Prop 300. There will be no refunds available if you do not provide the correct documentation within 10 days of registering.
If you did not previously complete a Domicile Affidavit Application to prove your Arizona residency you must do this also http://www.law.arizona.edu/tradelaw/PDF/DomicileAffidavit.pdf. Once you complete the application mail it to the Residency Classification Office, the address is at the top of the form. For further information regarding UA Residency Classification please check out this page: http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/residency/residenc.htm.
How do I receive my homework, course notes, textbooks, tests and exams?
Video courses: The Distance Learning Coordinator handles the shipment and receipt of homework, exams, and course handouts. Course materials are sent to students as soon as classes get underway. There will be an additional charge for course notes. Students fax or mail homework to the Distance Learning office.
You may be asked to select a proctor for your tests and exams. When examinations must be supervised, the coordinator faxes, emails or mails a copy of the exam questions to the proctor. After the examination, proctors are asked to return the exam to the coordinator, who will log it and pass it on to the instructor.
Specific instructions and contact information for the distance learning coordinator are sent to each student at the beginning of the semester.
Web-based courses: There is no standard way of handling homework, course notes, tests and exams for web-based courses. Most professors will post their policies and methods for handling these on their web sites. If you have difficulty getting the information, contact the UA Distance Learning office.
You may be asked to select a proctor for your tests and exams. In such cases, professors or TAs will usually make arrangements with your proctor for receiving and returning the exams via fax, mail or email.
Proctors: Where applicable, students are asked to select a proctor to supervise examinations. The proctor may be one of several people, including company, academic or public librarians; managers; military officers; company human resource representatives and education coordinators; or personnel in formal testing sites. The proctor agreement
form can be downloaded from this web site.
Textbooks: The required textbooks for each of the courses for which you’re registered are listed in the individual course descriptions on the UA Distance Learning web site. You may purchase your textbooks from the bookseller of your choice.
How do I add/drop course(s); change from credit to audit or audit to credit?
IMPORTANT! Do not use the regular UA registration system (WebReg or RSVP) to add, drop or change from credit-to-audit or audit-to credit any Distance Learning courses.
Any action you wish to take to add or drop a distance course or to change from credit to audit (or vice-versa) must be done through the Outreach College Registration Office. Please do not attempt to take such action yourself through the University of Arizona RSVP system or Web Registration.
Changes are very easy to make. You don’t have to fill out any forms. We require written confirmation of course modification requests before we make any modification to your schedule or issue any refunds. Go to the online form to add/drop a course or change from audit to credit.
We'll send you a confirmation email when we receive your written drop request. If you don't get an email from us, please send us an email. Sometimes our emails don’t get through to you. The drop will be recorded in Student Link. You are not officially dropped until the record appears in Student Link.
The University of Arizona doesn’t offer the programs I need. Can you recommend other places I can look?
The Peterson's Guide to Distance Learning is a comprehensive web site for distance learning education in the United States.
I’m looking for the University of Arizona doctoral program in audiology. I can’t find it on your web site.
You’ve mistaken us for the Arizona School of Health Sciences, located in Mesa, Arizona.
Where can I find a complete list of distance learning courses available at the University of Arizona?
A complete list of distance learning courses available through the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University is available on the The Arizona Universities Network web site (http://www.azun.net/).
I'm admitted as a non-degree seeking student. When should I change my status from non-degree seeking to degree seeking?
We state the official Undergraduate and Graduate College policies below. However, it’s important to confirm that your department follows the general UA policies. Contact your academic advisor in your major department about this.
I'm a distance learning student and I've decided to finish the rest of my classes on campus. How do I transfer distance learning classes into my degree program?
If you were officially admitted to the University of Arizona when you took those courses, any courses you took for academic credit through UA Distance Learning have the same status as on-campus courses. On your record, there is no differentiation between courses taken at a distance and those taken in class. Thus there is no need to “transfer” those courses. They’re already on your transcript as regular UA classes.
Is it possible to satisfy ALL of my Ph.D. course requirements via Distance Learning?
Currently, the only Ph.D. degree that can be completed entirely at a distance is the newly developed Ph.D. in Nursing. This program is not handled by UA Distance Learning.
Do you offer any financial aid, i.e. scholarships/grants?
UA Distance Learning is unable to process financial aid payments. If you have financial aid paid directly to you, you can use it to pay your tuition.
What happens if I don’t make a payment for my courses and when are payments due?
UA Distance Learning requires payment for courses immediately before you can be registered for any courses during any semester (fall, winter, spring, summer). This applies to financial aid recipients regardless of the semester. If you have registered for the Tuition Payment Plan (or your company has agreed to pay) and fail to make a payment you are subjected to a late charge of 1.5% per month or 18% per annum. The Tuition Payment Plan is only available fall and spring semesters. We reserve the right to drop you from a course for any non-payment of your balance.
We certainly want you to successfully complete your courses, but should you find you must drop, please note the University of Arizona refund policies. Refer to the online schedule of refund dates for this semester which can be found on the UA Bursar’s Website or our home page under Important Dates. If your course is a late start course (meaning it did not start on the 1st day of the UA’s semester) then the refund period is 2 weeks after the 1st day of class. Refunds to credit cards will be processed within 48 business hours of drop request. Refunds by check can take up to 8 weeks for the University of Arizona to process the refund. During high volume these processing times may fluctuate.
For students with employee education benefits: If your employer does not pay for your class, you will be responsible for paying all applicable tuition and fees.
What is the difference between a Video Stream Delivery of a course and a Web Delivered Course?
These options refer to the delivery method for a course. If a course is offered via Web Delivery, then the course typically will use a web platform like D2L http://d2l.arizona.edu. If the course is listed as Video-Streamed then the lectures will be recorded and then the recording can be viewed on our website: www.ceao.arizona.edu/uadistance.
Videostreaming:
Regular on-campus lectures are recorded and digitized. The lectures are uploaded to a course web site for viewing on your computer. All students taking video-based courses are given access to the videostreamed lectures.
Videostreamed lectures are generally available on the Internet by the evening of the day the lecture was given.
Required software (free downloads) to view lectures and notes:
Minimum hardware and software for viewing Video-streamed classes:
DVDs:
In addition to receiving the videostreamed lectures, some courses may offer DVDs of the course lectures. The DVDs are sent by Federal Express once each week.
Accompanying web sites: Many instructors have created web-sites to supplement their videostreamed lectures. In addition, some courses offer online discussion areas and chatrooms where students and TAs can discuss course materials, homework, exams, etc. Students will be given access to these passworded web sites after they have registered for the course.
Web-Based Courses:
Lectures and course materials are delivered through Internet/Web. Some professors may include a conferencing capability for student, TA and instructor discussion. Courses may be enhanced by print materials, DVDS, and audio or video tapes. Students will be given access to password-protected course web sites. Some professors prefer that the students contact them directly. Others prefer that we pass on your email address to them. You’ll be given detailed instructions after you’ve registered.
D2L access: Many professors use the course management platform D2L (Desire-2-Learn) for the basis of their web course. If your professor is using D2L, you can access it through the UA Learning Technology Center’s D2L web site: http://d2l.arizona.edu/. You will need your UA NetID and password to log in. Go to the UA NetID Login panel on the left side of the screen. Make sure you check your browser before attempting to log in. If you have not created your UA NetID and password, go to https://netid.arizona.edu/newid.html and follow the instructions.
The University of Arizona no longer mails grade reports. The final grades are posted by the Office of Curriculum and Registration in Student Link.
You can get your official final grade on line from Student Link:
How do I print a grade report?
How do I get my name and Student ID to show up on the report?

To activate the display option to print out a copy with your name and SID on it:
Possible grades
See the University of Arizona Academic Policies, Grades and the Grading System for a listing of all possible grades.
Requesting an incomplete (“I”)
If you are unable to complete a course within the prescribed time, you may request an incomplete from your professor. If the professor grants the incomplete, you must mutually agree to the conditions upon which you will complete the course, and in what time frame. The university has strict policies on the granting and term limits of incompletes (see University of Arizona Grading Policy Manual for details).
If you should receive an incomplete, complete the course later, and then need a written copy of your grade, you can contact the University of Arizona Office of Curriculum and Registration for a transcript.
How can I get a copy of my UA Transcripts?
All requests for Transcripts must be made to the Registrar's office. For more information on how to request a copy of your transcripts, including how to submit a request online please go to: http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/transcripts/default.htm
How can I request a course set-up through Distance Learning?
How and when is revenue paid to me or my department?
We begin processing distribution returns 45 days after the end of the semester or once we have received tuition payments in full for a course. Each return is processed according to the previously established agreement.
** Please Note** Faculty members: We do not control the actual amount of revenue paid to you. This is typically at the discretion of your college or department and is not determined by Distance Learning.
